Kala Collection
Kala explores colour as a symbolic language of transformation. Drawing on the Dikenga, a Kongo cosmological representation of the cycle of existence, black, red, white and yellow mark different states of being: birth, maturity, passage into the ancestral realm and the presence of spirit.
Through recycled glass, silver and gold, colour punctuates repeated geometries and textured surfaces, making cycles of transformation visible.
Kala explores birth through black and red.
Traditionally made recycled glass beads from Ghana interrupt repeated silver geometries, appearing as small moments of life within an otherwise mineral field. Triangular and rhomboid forms repeat across the pieces, drawing on the geometric language of Kongo visual culture and its ideas of continuity and renewal.
Silver, black, red and occasional traces of gold create a restrained chromatic language in which colour carries meaning rather than ornament.

The Birth series
Birth brings colour to the centre.
Sand-cast and oxidised silver create earth-like surfaces, referring to creation narratives in which the human body emerges from the earth. Against these mineral surfaces, black and red signal birth and maturation, while white and yellow evoke passage and the spiritual realm.
Colour locates each object within a longer cycle between physical and ancestral existence.
