Passport Earrings

A unique pair of earrings inspired by the small-scale masks sometimes referred to as passport masks, carried as personal objects and connected to identity, belonging and protection.
Miniature faces in recycled silver sit within sculpted palm kernel shells, their dark organic surfaces forming protective frames around the metal figures. Long silver wires extend around the forms, giving the earrings a sense of suspension and movement.
Each element is shaped and finished individually, allowing the irregularities of the palm kernel to remain visible. The two earrings are related rather than identical, reflecting the individuality of the material and of the faces they carry.
A unique piece and the first exploration of a developing series around masks, identity and the idea of the object as something carried with us.
